In 2023, CUNA (America's Credit Unions) estimated that GECU saved members on average $673 and up to $1,371 for high-use member households!

• In July 2023, Gas & Electric Credit Union was voted the best Credit Union by the Quad Cities Regional Business Journal. We have also consistently ranked highly in many categories in Locals Love Us.

• As of September 2025, we are ranked 6^th out of 685 credit unions in our peer group, the top 1%, in Callahan’s Return to Member Index.  This measures how well we return value to members in three categories – return to savers, return to borrowers, and member product usage.  For all credit unions in the US, we are ranked 53rd out of 4,391 nationwide, or the top 1.2%. We rank 1st in the country in our peer group and 3rd nationwide for Member Service Usage. We have maintained our high rankings in both peer and nationwide standing for many years.
  

• Since 2015, we have paid over 1,200,000 in bonus dividends back to our members.

A Little About Us...

Gas & Electric Credit Union (GECU) was formed in 1935. We are a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative. Because credit unions are a cooperative — they are owned by their members and instead of paying profits to shareholders — we pay you the profits in the form of higher savings rates, lower loan rates, and lower, if any fees. Much like any other financial institution, credit union accounts are insured. GECU accounts are insured to at least $250,000 by the federal government through the NCUA.

Through the years we have grown substantially, however the philosophy of the Board of Directors and staff has never changed. Our first priority is and always will be service to our members. We offer an array of financial services to meet all of our members’ needs — from kids to seniors. We also believe strongly in giving back and supporting our community. You'll see this in many ways, whether it is employees volunteering their time or sponsorships and donations to local organizations.
