Important Information About Procedures for Opening a New Account:

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means to you

When you open an account, GECU will ask you for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. Once you complete this online form, all information will be sent securely to the credit union and you will simply need to stop in to sign paperwork and provide two identifying documents such as an unexpired government issued ID- such as a driver's license, and one other official document with your name and address. A paystub is ideal!

Youth accounts require a social security card and a photo school ID, if applicable.

For convenience, you may choose to attach a copy of these documents when you submit this secure application.

Beneficiary Information

The owners of many accounts name payable-on-death (POD) beneficiaries for the accounts. That means that when the account owner (or the last surviving owner, in the case of a joint account) dies, the POD beneficiary can simply claim the money from the Credit Union. The deceased person's will does not come into play, and there's no need for any probate court involvement, either.

POD designations are widely used because they're simple both for the person who sets them up and the beneficiaries who inherit. Please indicate below if you would like to include a beneficiary at this time.
